Guest Lectures

Host-Parasite Interactions (MIC172), University of California, Davis, Spring 2020
Instructor: Dr. Katherine Ralston
Enrollment: 34 undergraduate students
Summary: For this course, I developed and presented two guest lectures on parasitic fungi. I also selected assigned readings to complement these lectures. Throughout the course, I observed Dr. Ralston’s teaching and contributed by developing and participating in student assessment. Exam and quiz questions that I wrote, as well as recordings of my lectures, are available in my teaching portfolio and by request.

Core Biology: Biotechnology (BIOS10130), University of Chicago, Spring 2017
Instructor: Dr. Navneet Bhasin
Enrollment: ~45 undergraduate students
Summary: For this course, my colleague, Daniela Palmer, and I developed and presented a guest lecture, “Mechanisms of Evolution, Drift, Flow, and Selection.” The class period was composed of part lecture and part small group work, which involved reading a science perspective article that covered a recent discovery related to evolution. Material that I developed related to this lecture is available in my teaching portfolio and by request.

Teaching Certificate

I have a certificate in college teaching through the University of Chicago Chicago Center for Teaching (CCT) program.

  • Pedagogical training: Completed three courses, (1) Fundamentals in Teaching in Biological and Physical Sciences, (2) Entering Mentoring, (3) Course Design and College Teaching.
  • Practice and feedback: Participated in an Individual Teaching Consultation (ITC), during which a discussion section that I led was observed and reported on by two graduate student CCT teaching consultants. Video of this discussion section and the ITC report are available on request.
  • Documentation of my teaching: My teaching portfolio and the associated documents are available on request.
